Why take a new path?
For hundreds of years we have been taught to seek a good job, work hard and retire at age 65 with a pension. The big problem is that the pension we have long been expecting is likely to be non-existent or insignificant compared to our needs. When 65 was set as the retirement age, less than 50% of people that reached adulthood actually reach aged 65, but now with life expectancy growing fast and the number of children being born declining the cost of supporting people in their old age is getting too expensive and the amount saved for the pensions painfully insignificant compared to the real costs involved.
Throughout our lives we are assured that we will retire to a peaceful life and that once we reach age 65 we can relax and enjoy the rest of our years without fear or struggle. You only need to read the newspaper and watch the TV to know that this is not the way it will be. In the UK the Public Sector Pension Deficit is larger than the entire government debt, which itself is at the highest level in history. The picture in the US is somewhat different, but the fact is that 95% of people reach age 65 either dead or dead broke.
Unlike third world countries we do not have a culture of caring for our parents and grandparents in the way they do, so our children expect us to be able to support ourselves throughout the entirety of our lives. And that is in fact what we all want, isn’t it? To be self sufficient and to have a standard of living that allows us to go where we want and do what we want?
But if we follow what we have always been told the fact is most people will end their days flat broke and dependent on others. We are never taught about alternatives.
In this blog I am, through the knowledge of experts in various fields, seek another way to make a living that not only allows me to have more free time, but also allows me to build on my wealth and increase my prosperity even while I am sleeping. And in doing so I hope to show you what works, what doesn’t and what you can follow if you choose.
